Field Training

Nature of participation:

Field Training for the Mechanical Engineering major. Training from both the Mechanical and Energy Engineering departments was conducted simultaneously at Erbil Technical University, where we learned about its academic educational system for our respective majors. Training was conducted at both the Technical College and the College of Technology. The training included lectures, practical laboratory training, and field visits, which provided us with a wealth of practical knowledge. We also learned about the beautiful nature, civilization, and history of the country.

Scientific and practical experience:

I had a high-level training period at Erbil Technical University, where our training began in the Technical College, Department of Mechanics and Renewable Energy. We started the training by getting to know the department by the Dean of the College, who welcomed us and explained all the details of the training period to us at the university. Then, we had a field visit to one of the huge malls in Erbil and learned all the mechanical details that the mall operates with, from generators and storage batteries to the cooling and air conditioning system in the mall. We also learned about the mechanical plan that was designed to build the mall in detail, and explained the program used in its design and how to work on it and follow up on it by the mechanical engineer, and explained their fire and protection systems. Then practical training in the heat transfer lab and working on several practical experiments there, training in the refrigeration and air conditioning lab by studying many modern devices that we can use for both cooling and air conditioning, and training in the engineering workshops lab. Then we moved to the Technological College and started training in the Mechanics and Metals Department by getting a simple overview of renewable energy, solar panels, and the angles of incidence of rays, and learning about the most important mechanical tools used in the college's main lab. Then we took lectures in each of the renewable energy lab, the electricity lab, and the fluid lab, and many practical experiments were explained to us. Then training on using a lux meter to measure the intensity of lighting by the lighting distance. And training on wind energy by identifying the type of blades used in wind turbines. And learning about a doctoral student's project at the university based on the principle of heating with a glass reflector. It was an unforgettable scientific experience that enriched our knowledge.

Other activities:

The trip gave us a great opportunity to learn about Kurdish culture, in addition to the recreational aspect. We visited various places in Erbil, such as the historic Erbil Citadel, the beautiful Duhok region, and several museums, such as the Barzani Museum. We were also hosted by the Kurdistan Regional Government's Advisor for Arab Countries Affairs, the Secretariat of the Regional Government's Prime Minister, and the Palestinian Consul in Erbil. During the training, we made many friends from Kurdistan, Oman, Libya, and Egypt. It was a wonderful and very beneficial experience, rich in scientific and cultural knowledge.
