Field Training

Nature of participation:

Field training at Al-Balqa' Applied University in Salt.

Scientific and practical experience:

During our field training at Al-Balqa' Applied University in Salt, we gained diverse academic and practical experience that enriched our knowledge and honed our skills in the field of media. Our practical experience in photojournalism began at the new Salt Hospital, where we learned how to handle the camera in sensitive environments while adhering to professional ethics and respecting the privacy of others. We then moved on to specialized training on body language and nonverbal communication, where we learned how to employ gestures, facial expressions, and tone of voice during media interviews. This contributed to developing our approach to media communication. We also learned about mobile journalism, studying its beginnings and its role in quick coverage. We delved into practical use of mobile phones for photography by practicing shot angles and camera movements. Additionally, we gained experience in managing digital libraries, where we trained in classifying books and searching modern electronic sources, enabling journalists to access information accurately and quickly. On another note, we had the valuable opportunity to attend a specialized symposium on hate speech and the media, held at the Rotana Hotel in Amman. We attended the symposium closely alongside a group of elite media professionals and academics. The university provided us with a unique opportunity to interact with experts, with whom we discussed the impact of hate speech on society and ways to produce professional and responsible media. We also received in-depth training in photography and videography using cameras and smartphones, including learning about different types, stabilization techniques, and image quality. Practical applications enhanced our understanding of the importance of shot angles. We also practiced the art of media presentation through practical exercises on correct posture, controlling voice tone, and emphasizing words while reading texts. Finally, we expanded into the field of e-marketing and digital media, learning about the role of social media in the success of organizations, how to leverage trends and create diverse types of content, and understanding the importance of voice-over in advertising, making our experience rich in knowledge and practical application.

Other activities:

Our journey wasn't limited to academic study. The university also took us on an educational trip to the cable car and Ajloun Castle, then to the ruins of Jerash. We learned about Jordan's most important tourist and heritage sites and exchanged cultures with our colleagues from various Palestinian and Jordanian universities, providing us with the opportunity to network and form new friendships.

We also participated in a field visit organized by the university to the most prominent media institutions in Jordan, starting with the Media City, where we viewed the various studios and learned about their equipment for producing media content. We then went to Jordan Television and the Jordan Television Museum, where we learned about the history of Jordanian media, explored the studios and the digital media department, and participated in practical training. We concluded our tour at the Jordan Media Institute, where we learned about the master's programs, teaching methods, and scholarships available to Palestinian female students. We also learned about the institute's role in preparing students for the job market through practical training. In addition, we had the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of downtown Amman and wander among its historical landmarks and traditional markets. Through our various visits, we discovered Jordan's natural and cultural beauty, making the educational and cultural experience complete. Our trip concluded with a special closing ceremony at Al-Balqa' Applied University in Salt, where we were honored as Arab student exchange students and shared words of encouragement and appreciation from experts and professors. This experience makes it a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in student exchange.
