Construction Engineering
Turkey
Middle East Technical University
Academic Semester Study
Nature of participation:
A full semester at Middle East University, which included theoretical and practical courses in the college's laboratories.
Scientific and practical experience:
Regarding practical experience, I conducted many different experiments in the college's laboratories. As for academic experience, my study schedule included courses that were not included in the curriculum for the Construction Engineering major at Khadouri University. Therefore, I gained a significant amount of useful information for my major. However, shortly after, the coronavirus began to spread, quarantines began, and all university facilities were closed. Education was shifted to online learning, with most of it delivered in Turkish instead of English. This made it difficult to understand the material at first, and I had to delve deeper into Turkish to understand the explanations of those subjects.
Other activities:
I met new friends of different nationalities, and we exchanged cultures and customs. I must admit that the coronavirus had a positive impact, as during the nearly month-long quarantine, we became more connected to each other and to the Turkish people than we had been before. We exchanged different cultures while eating together due to the closure of all aspects of life outside of our homes. On the other hand, there were many recreational and touristic visits to most of the famous landmarks in Ankara and other Turkish cities, such as Cappadocia, Istanbul, and others.
